The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE) said at the '14th Emergency Economy and People's Assembly held on the 15th that it plans to secure core technologies for advanced robots by investing more than 2 trillion won (Approximately US $1.5 billion) over the next five years until 2026 together with the public and private sectors to become a global advanced robot manufacturer.
In particular, the ministry plans to secure proprietary technologies for five core parts, including reducers, servomotors, grippers, sensors, and controllers.
The ministry will also promote regulatory improvements and large-scale demonstration projects to create a robot-friendly environment. To this end, the ministry has identified 51 core regulations in four areas, including mobility enhancement, safety, collaboration and assistance, and infrastructure, and said it will improve 39 issues by 2024.
A project to build a 'National Robot Test Field' will also be promoted to demonstrate and commercialize various business models. It will also actively promote the use of robots in fields such as welding, cooking, and caregiving, which are said to be at risk of job mismatch.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the government announced that it will invest 95 trillion won by 2026 to become one of the three global powers in future automobiles. By 2027, it plans to invest more than 2 trillion won to secure core technologies such as sensors and rechargeable batteries, and to train 30,000 future vehicle convergence personnel such as SW personnel by 2030. The 'Future Vehicle Transition Special Act' will also be enacted to support the transition to future vehicles in the parts industry.
